Writing a sequel to a big-action, big-power book is always risky. After all, once you've defeated a plot by Elder-Goddish forces to destroy the world, what do you do for an encore?

Correia manages to pull this sequel to "Monster Hunter International" off, further fleshing out the characters of MHI (and their federal government counterparts). The personal stakes get bigger, and more personal, and more creepy-horrific, but nothing that a bunch of monster hunters with improbably large guns and improbably low thresholds to using them can't handle.

In other words, if you liked the first, you'll like the second, and without the feeling you've read it all before.
