Is it possible to be optimistic about our world? Pinker is. Going through the data he shows humans have become less violent through history. Which seems counter to what we encounter on the news and our lives. He covers everything from war to child rearing. He discusses how humans have more self-control and more empathy, crediting Hobbes paradigm of the state.

Michael Glad you liked it, since I'm still working my way through. Had to laugh out loud about the bad things he said about the hippies.
