As someone who is studying medieval women's history, this book was a real treat. LaFevers paints a vivid world of late fifteenth century Brittany, with a particular eye to convents (though I have yet to uncover any evidence of convents training their female religious to dispatch men so eagerly).

Ismae is a fantastic, prickly heroine, and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing her world through her eyes. I cannot wait for the next installment in this series.

- Would recommend for 11 graders & up.
