bookshelves: sci-fi-dystopia

The idea behind the book is interesting but, for some reason, this book was just not as interesting as Bodeen's previous novel. It could be the characters. Mason is presented as some kind of hulk-ish character that is somewhat super-heroic, somewhat pathetic, and somewhat just naive. Mason just couldn't sustain my interst. As for the willowy and suffering Laila, well....she's a super-woman in need of a savior? Bah. Maybe that was why the book couldn't hold my interest. Perhaps the power structure was just too out of balance which is unsual for YA sci-fi. The book was okay; I've read worse. But, unless you are just really into eco-literature or a corporate conspiracist, I might just skip this one.
