Just finished my first L.J. Sellers novel and I found it to be a relatively solid piece of writing. She has obviously done her research about how detectives do their work and it came through well in her writing.

However, the thinly veiled political jabs and broad brush generalizations were enough to affect the rating for me. Some of the characters in this book were your oft-used stereotypical villains (Republican politician, right-wing religious 'wackos') and hero(s) (Planned Parenthood 'victim', etc.). Such characterizations are more than a little over-used and it gets old, especially because real life tells us it just isn't all that black and white. Undesirables exist in all walks of life, within any political or religious affiliation you choose to examine. Hopefully the other books in the Jackson series aren't as heavy-handed with the political leanings.

Still, the series is promising and I do plan to continue reading the other Jackson books. Recommended.
