Approaching a classic of this status is always difficult... expectations are usually thwarted in one way or another. The story itself (including the themes of the limitations of science and humanity) isn't nearly as interesting as the way in which it is told... with multiple layers of narration (and exaggeration?), and a bombastic overuse of language. Basically I found this novel interesting in form rather than in content.
