After having read and enjoyed Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Series, I was eager to see what she could come up with in the genre of adult sci-fi. I was not disappointed. In fact, I think this book may be her strongest yet. The writing is more mature than in the Twilight books (at least through Eclipse - upon writing this review, Breaking Dawn has not yet come out), though she does fall back on the use of some of her favorite words and descriptions, which does get a little annoying and repetitive after a while.

Still, the story is enticing and the characters have depth. It's not often in an alien-race-takes-over-the-planet story that one of said aliens is the protagonist and that you are able to see eye-to-eye with and relate to her character.

There were plenty of twists and turns, a whole range of emotions, and a plot that keeps you on your toes. It starts off a little slowly, but if you can get past the first 50 pages or so, you won't regret it, and you won't be able to put the book down. I read this mammoth book in three nights while on a business trip, working 12-14 hour days. And I loved it. (I missed sleeping, but I loved the book.)
