Really, no really liked this was compulsively readable and honestly I liked the surprises, the drama and the way he dragged you out to the last pages to find out the answer to the question asked in the beginning scenes: "Which one of you bastards is my father?"..Okay to catch my breath as I have been reading on the train after my exercise class on the way home to finish for this review I thought this was a very well written fun story about four friends, the book hails them as lifelong friends but I never saw it like that, they knew each other for a lng time but there were obviously closer relationships in the quartet and honestly Barry never really seemed that close to either of them-- but anyways, so the four successful men who met in the summer of the 80s in Sag Harbor are summoned by a successful rapper to disclose who may have fathered him many years ago..The story takes its time meandering through the past and the present day telling story after story, and so many secrets are exposed it can be too much but it made you so curious..I liked so many things about this book from the character development to the plot developments of every character and the way they are handled to the emotional side of each man that he expertly touches on but I really think the set up paternity question and reveal was dated and formulaic and hid the true flow and talent of the author..His inspirations (80s romance novels I also read with my mom) were blatantly obvious though refreshed but ultimately the only thing I would change about the book..I recommend this as it seems like an easy read but is dense and thorough and will keep you turning pages and even,(my favorite), have you daydreaming about the characters and what you think may happen to them randomly in the middle of the day--sigh, a good book...cant wait to get back to reading...aah
