This is a picture book designed for children ages P-I.

This is a story about a brother and sister who stay home while their mom leaves the house for the day. While home alone, the Cat-in-the-hat comes to visit and a number of events take place.

I enjoyed this book because it is humorous in that the events that take place in the house are unrealistic but are comical to the reader. This is another book of rhyme that draws the children in and allows them to hear the words that rhyme. The pictures compliment the text and allows readers to really see what happens on this crazy day. I like how the story ends what a question because it leaves it open for classroom discussion as to whether they would tell their mother what happened that day.

In the classroom the children could come up with their own ideas of other things that could have happened during that day. They could discuss topics such as do we let strangers in the house when parents are not home. They could draw pictures that reflect their favorite part in the story.
