An enjoyable, quick read. The English elderly characters bring an understanding of the quietly held feelings of growing older. I found myself feeling their sadness, fear, regret, humor, and acceptance of growing older. The retirement home 'tourism' in India is an escape from the increasing costs of retirement and the growing distance from relatives who desire a freedom from responsibilities to their elderly parents. The Marigold hotel brings these characters together, with their hauntingly similar stories, trying to find some peace, some companionship, and one last adventure till the end of their lives. Although life can be hard, it can also bring delightful surprises, as long as we are willing to step out, and look at the possibilities. I am looking forward to the movie and know that I will enjoy it thoroughly. Who will Maggie Smith play? Evelyn, I think. If you are not put off by the elderly and all their quirks, then you will enjoy this book.
