The Codex is a wonderful and swift moving read which crackles with a presumption of the reader's intellect comparable to Scarlett Thomas. The story itself holds multiple strands together with ease, but unfortunately the book is burdened by a rather flimsy ending. You can not have your protagonist suddenly go stupid, his love interest suddenly go greedy, and the main plot suddenly go boring within the final twenty pages and not have it impact the overall quality of the narrative as a whole.

I am a fan of Lev Grossman, and this book was worth a look, but it's still nowhere near the league of The Magicians.
