I managed to ignore asking myself if the author would have been happy with this book while I was reading it, and was swept up in a very good adventure story, though perhaps not your typical Crichton novel. The book is paced very well until the last 15%; normally a slow reader I'd find that I'd burned through 50 pages without realizing. If you want an adult version of Treasure Island, this is it. If you want typical Crichton, go read State of Fear.
