Steinbeck. Much like Hemingway, Melville, or Dickens…a singular name that holds such gravity it conjures immediate thoughts of literate greatness in the minds of readers and nonreaders alike. This man’s words take on a nearly transcendental experience when they are not forced upon you by the trappings of a secondary education English or literature class.

‘Thou mayest’. Thou mayest choose a path of goodness or evil, sin or salvation, darkness or light. The frailty of the human condition is treated with such a timeless clarity, with an enduring message of choice and the ramifications of these choices.
