The Sins of the Father

by Jeffrey Archer
"The Sins of the Father" comes right on the heels of the first book "Only Time Will Tell." If you like books of English dynasties and mega families with more twists and secrets than a three legged squirrel you'll love this one. Maybe not a dynasty but certain a family with a past. This is during the war years for England (1939-1945). Family members will do almost anything to protect a name or a person or even those who no longer exist. So Henry Clifton made a rather unwise choice which ended him in prison in America and a family in England thinking him dead, which is what he wanted. But his time in England is not so far off. And it all weaves into part of the intrigue.
Jeffery Archer is great at weaving a very complex tale and keeping your interest up and also turning pages. But the reason I only gave four stars is two fold. His way of switching view points throughout the book, as if it were four or five books put together, can be a little irritating. I just get into one character and then the book flies off to somewhere else and starts over with a new family member. He does a pretty good job pulling it all together but it does break up the story some and for me I felt the book suffered from this approach. And second he apparently is going to just keep the story going because he doesn't really end the book, nor does he really give it conclusion where one can wait for the next installment. I find these types of endings, or lack thereof annoying to say the least. I guess if you have all the series and can keep reading it works but to wait for him to write is not what I like. t seems to be just a ploy to force people to buy more books.

Three legged squirrel? I love that image. :) Thanks for the note. I want to read the series now but I'll wait until Archer is finished writing it.
