This was a book about true friendship. The girls met in grade school and became instant friends. One girl was an only child and her parents had money. The other had siblings and the parents were always fighting and the father an alcoholic. The girls were inseperable. Both met boys in high school. One girl got pregnant and married while still in school (the poor one). The other met a boy the parents did not approve of. She went off to college and he went off to the Vietnam war. The girls stayed in tough. The poor one had 4 children and a drunk husband just like her father. The boy in Vietnam died and broke the girls heart. She became a lawyer and then a judge. The poor one had alot of problems with her drunk husband and finally divorced him. She raised her children as a single mom, worked full time and went to school. She later married again and had a wonderful second marriage and many grandchildren. The other married again and lost him to cancer. She went thru her own medical problems, but the girls were always there for each other. Thru letters and visits they picked up wherever they left off. It was a very nice book that I really enjoyed.
