really liked it
bookshelves: childrens

My knee-jerk reflex against sloppy moralizing probably kept me from picking up this book for so long. What a mistake! Grace is the kind of joyful, assertive little girl whose struggle with the illusive boundaries of race and gender never get in the way of her boundless imagination. I very much appreciate the subtleties of Hoffman's storytelling and the vivid artwork. I am already bracing myself for the day(s) when my own daughter will be confronted with prejudice and its history in America - hopefully a book like this can serve as a guide for her (and for me).

Nicole I enjoyed reading your comment. It made think about where I purchased for a great deal at www.lovingmebooks.com. They have an entire online children's bookstore dedicated to black children. Yet, their message is unite all, starting with self. The site saved me tons of money. Wanted to share :).
