This novel of politics and power is a towering masterpiece. As much (if not more) about its right-hand-man narrator as about its Huey Long-like Southern governor, it's undoubtedly Robert Penn Warren's best novel, though I've found several of his others quite underrated. "All the King's Men" is the sort of book that, bug-eyed after finishing, I wondered why in hell I hadn't read it before, then pondered when I would read it again.
