** spoiler alert ** 'A novel in dramatic form' says the front cover. Two men, Black and White, with very different views of life are having a conversation in an apartment in a New York ghetto.

White tried to kill himself. Black saved White and brought him home. They talked for 143 pages at a kitchen table. Control shifted from one to the other the more they talked. When I reached the end of the book I felt like punching most of my coworkers. The end was so depressing and I was still hungry.

More so depressing for me because half the time I share White's bleak view of the world. Not to his extreme though. And suicide has never crossed my mind, ever. Tonight when I went home, I stared at the subway's headlights as they approached the station and tried to picture someone like White.

A very powerful book.
