This is good! Maybe more like 3.5 stars? Or maybe I just had really high expectations going in. Either way, it's engaging and you can finish it in a day and get bonus points for crying on the subway. And John Green seems like a genuinely nice and adorable person.

I hadn't read YA in awhile and I sort of forgot how quickly plots progress when you're not reading 600 pages of someone trying to be clever and precious and prove why they got an MFA, so at first I was like, Oh, you're going to Amsterdam for real? Just like that? That quickly? But you just sort of have to go with it and not question the logistics too much.

At the risk of betraying exactly how callous I am, I didn't really completely care about the love story between Gus and Hazel. But the dad, oh my god the dad. I had to put the book down and weep pretty much anytime he was mentioned. So maybe I'm not only callous, I'm also old.
