Whether you like this book or not, you can't help but be impressed by it - it is, objectively, a great achievement, incredibly rich and dense and all-encompassing. I think that as a work of art, it would have been even better if Chabon had taken a hacksaw to the thing and ruthlessly cut out about half of it. But to quote Bob Saget of Full House (commenting on DJ's performance in a school play), "I laughed, I cried, I learned about life."
