No. No no! Wrong. When this book came out, we couldn't keep it in stock because my book store's in Berkeley and everyone is a smug, self-congratulatory old hippie. Here is my opinion: even if they rhyme and are in a pretend version of Goodnight Moon, Abu Ghraib, the 3017 people who died on September 11th, and the entirety of american foreign policy for the last eight years- they're not funny. I mean, okay, maybe they could be funny, if you said something insightful or mean or irreverent about them, but when you put them in a smug, shananana hey hey hey goodbye context, you're not writing satire. You're preaching to the choir, and you're emptying all the meaning from what you're preaching as you do it.

Sorry to be no fun- it's just, are we this far gone? Really? The whole point of the book is that all the jokes, these terrible things that happened (and continue to happen), they're nothing more than signifiers that Bush is a douche.

But whatever. Maybe I've just sold too many copies of it to smug assholes.
