really liked it
Read from February 16 to 23, 2012

It built really, really well at the beginning, and I always cared about the characters, even if they were a bit cliched (A gruff ship captain! A functioning alcoholic detective!), but the ending... 75 percent of the way through it went all... I believe the technical term is "snooker loopy" and shot all the intrigue and plotting right in the face.

Actually, it did that literally, now that I think about it. After that point, I finished it because I felt like I had to see it out, but I could see exactly how it was ending. I'll probably pick up the next one, since it looks like it's returning to the part I liked (the scheming) with a lesser emphasis on what I didn't (...redacted because of spoilers).
