A sweet poem as a book about loss, writing, and overcoming stage-fright when sharing student work. I would recommend this to any tween who is involved with creative activities. Poetry, visual art, music, theater performance, and anything else that involves sharing something created by a tween. The book is also a good introduction to various genres of poetry including the sonnet, a text shape poem (words used to make forms on the page), and classic verse by Robert Frost. This book would help tweens feel more comfortable engaging in any creative process, by who the narrator questions what writers mean when they write certain poems. The book has the added bonus of appealing to dog lovers, though that's actually a much sadder part of the book than what appears on the cover.
