It was a beautiful story that made you want to cry, laugh and smile along with the characters. Well put together plot line, the characters were people you could really feel for and identify with. I loved the humanness of it all, way different stories were intermingled with each other and how you felt closure at the end of it all. Read it. Everyone.

Susanne An excellent bk. I would even say it is one of the 10 best bks I've read in my 64 yr life, as an avid reader. Sadly, it was just this past wk; that I learned that Alice Walker is an anti-Semitic, hater of Israel. I do not buy into her sugar-coated compassion for Palestine. The fact that she references another evil bigot, Desmond TuTu as if he were a S. African hero, when most learned people know he is corrupted, is also deplorable. I will never read or recommend another bk of hers. This bk is not toxic, not at all; but Ms. Walker's recent comments lead me to be weary of her other books and that they might perpetuate her poison. This is a very sad chapter in Jewish/African-Am. relations and Alice Walker has chosen to be on the "other side".
