Amazing. Without the annotations I would have still enjoyed it but would not have fully appreciated Nabakov's brilliance (I would have flat out missed tons of stuff). Appel's notes are derived from interviews with Nabakov, plus his own class notes from when he was a student in Nabakov's lit course at Cornell. They are wonderful both for their literary analysis and also for the simple translations of French terms, etc.
