Blood Bound is the second book in the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. Mercy is a walker, as the vampires call her, a Native American shapeshifter who transforms into a coyote, sees the spirits of the dead, and has an inborn resistance to most magic (vampire or otherwise). Because her magic is resistant to magic her vampire friend, Stefan, asks her to accompany him, in her coyote form, while he goes to talk to another vampire. Unfortunately, things go wrong after they arrive and find out that the vampire is possessed with a demon. Stefan is put into a trance and is made to believe he has done things he didn’t do and the only the way to save them is Mercy biting the vampire.

Mercy awakes at her house with Sam and Stefan looking on her. Stefan asks for her help again to testify to what she witnessed to his vampire Marsilla. He is asked to destroy the demon-vampire.

Some of the vampires and werewolves form a team to track and capture the demon possessed vampire but when they all fail to return Marsilia orders Mercy to join the hunt. It is up to Mercy to succeed in finding and destroying the demon ridden vampire before any more people, including Mercy’s friends, die.

Blood Bound is an exciting continuance in the Mercy Thompson series. It has fantasy, mystery, action, and a little romance, everything a reader wants to make the book one you won’t want to put down. Be prepared to read it in one sitting.
