it was amazing
Read in January, 2012

This was an enjoyable re-read, though Rachel was perhaps more annoying this time through. She is just so set on making herself alone and miserable... But then again, sometimes we really do that in life... It makes you want to step back and see how you're sabotaging your own happiness with your stubbornness.

I am fascinated by this world that Shinn created and really wonder about the other worlds that were populated. There are hints that there were other kinds created...

At any rate, like many of Shinn's stories, the action and mystery and excitement and world exploration and everything else is all held together by the relationship between a man and a woman. We're talking emotional here, not physical. It's romance not of the smut-novel variety, but of the kind that means you get great characterization and character growth. You are going to meet characters that you can't wait to learn more about, who you care about and hope the best for. Shinn's characters, alone, would be enough to make her books amazing, but luckily she also knows how to come up with a great plot and create fascinating universes.
