it was amazing
bookshelves: crime, adventure
Read in January, 2012

Not as strong as The Adventures, but still thoroughly enjoyable. There are some stories in which the case doesn't get solved or Holmes does very little to help unravel it, but on the other hand we do get interesting tidbits about Holmes the human being. Among my favourites are Silver Blaze, the Naval Treaty, the Resident Patient, the Reigate Squire.

I don't get all the obsession about The Final Problem, though. True, it is a heart-wrenching story and I love the Holmes/Watson interaction in it, but as a crime story I don't find it all that good. I guess one short story just isn't enough to build up such an uber-criminal as Moriarty is supposed to be.
