I'm both impressed and unimpressed by this installment in the series. Like its predecesor, Seeker, it too takes a major departure from the established format and narrative of the other books. Although the mythos Tiernan created/used for this series is based on many Neo-Pagan myths about the so-called Burning Times and proposed Wiccan historical traditions—all of which are wrong—the suspension of disbelief is pushed to the breaking-point in this story. The character Rose is not wholly believable to me. There isn't enough time to really dive into her psyche in her Book of Shadows, and we are left with more questions than answers about the Dark Wave and her decent into darkness. If this were Star Wars, Origin would be the Clone Wars. *sigh*
