Obviously, this classic is a good book. It was a little predictable for me, which I can only guess is due to the many artistic works that have borrowed a little from this work.

I'm not terribly into books set in the south, despite having been born and raised there myself. Probably because Florida is a unique state -- in the south, but not of it.

I think this book is a better read for pre-teens/young adults, particularly those just wrapping up "Where the Red Fern Grows" or "The Yearling." Mostly I just read it to cross it off the list.
