Another book on the buzz about Caldecott list. It was an honor book for the Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Award(for most distinguished informational book for children). Saw this touted as a middle-grade illustrated autobiography. I adore Allan Say's work, and found the story interesting, and not what I expected. The whole idea of a apprenticing to a cartoonist, and his unusual independence at a young age should broaden readers views of the world. But I wasn't emotionally drawn into this story, I'm sorry to say, and the style of art used, while very well done, is not as much my cup of tea.
