This is a zombie book - one where the zombies are created by a mad scientist type. It is set over the course of a day and night in the county of Stebbins - a remote farming county in Pennsylvania. The main character, Desdemona Fox, is a police officer who has some issues. As many different characters say in the novel, she is damaged goods. But she knows how to kick butt and quickly learns how to kick some zombie butt too. She is strong but vulnerable character, and I liked her. Her partner, JT, is a good foil though he disappears fairly early on in the book. The zombies are classic zombies - they want to bite and eat human flesh. However, through one of the early zombies, we learn that consciousness of the person lives on in the zombie but is unable to control the zombie body. So you get an unique insight by being able to get in the zombie head. If you like zombie books, you will like this one. It has a lot of thrills but also a pretty developed plot and characters.

I won this book in one of the Goodreads giveaways.
