Jeannette Walls describes growing up in extreme poverty with her eccentric, anti-establishment parent, one of whom is a drunk and the other is an "artiste". From the horrifying-but-oddly-humorous stories of neglect and child endangerment, this book really underscores the resilience of the Walls children and their power to overcome some pretty daunting obstacles.
