this book is written in a cutesy conversational tone. one thing that really bothered me is that the authors kept defending the idea that everyone can be a "true" fan (with a nod to the fact that women can be fans) but then go on to use phrases like "sissy mary" -- ummm, you're not doing women any favors by perpetuating the idea that underperforming men should be called by a female name. LAME.

golden missed opportunity: why tell the doug mirabelli racing from the pads to the sox story and not mention his great "it was the first time i was naked in a cop car" quote? if they can print it in the globe, it's surely not too risque. and it's gold! dear dougie five days, you are awesome. boston loves you. love, heather.

it's hard for me to judge how useful this book would be for someone who's not familiar with baseball. there were some good stories in here, so the book is not boring for someone who knows baseball (although i also can't tell what it would be like for an obsessive fan). the book meanders like a conversation, which is sometimes nice but sometimes seems like sloppy editing.

it sounds like i didn't like this book, which isn't true. it's filling a good niche out in the world. but this is not really a baseball book for women who already love the game.
