I found it confusing when Isherwood would, at times, talk of himself in 1st person and at times in 3rd person - at times he would talk about himself in 1st person talking about himself in 3rd person (in 4th person!?, or in 3rd person talking about himself in 3rd person (in 6th person!?!?!). The premise of the book was interesting, I do wish he had dwelt more on how the Nazis treated homosexuals. Perhaps had I read Goodbye to Berlin first, this would all have made more sense. Loving Cabaret, I fully expected this book to rate a 5 for me!
