Solid historical fiction about Princess Pari, a member of the Safavi dynasty in 16th century Iran. Narrated by her servant, the eunuch Javaher, Equal of the Sun is full of political intrigue at the royal court. Although the reader learns more about Javaher than Pari this is classic historical fiction in a richly detailed setting. I learned a lot about pre-modern Iran and enjoyed following the constant political maneuvers.
