Well, I've proceeded to read the 5-part John Corey series completely out of order ... #3, #4, #1, #2 and I'm currently reading #5. Fortunately, each book stands well on its own, so it doesn't matter. Of the 7 DeMille books I've read, this one didn't quite do it for me. I initially loved the alternating storytelling of John Corey and the Libyan assassin Asad Khalil. Inexplicably, the latter storytelling stopped 3/4 of the way through the book and DeMille lost me ... it seemed to me he got sick of writing this book and someone else finished it.

I enjoyed good old John Corey and his unparalleled sarcasm, but the out-of-left-field proposal to Kate and the simplified disappearing act of Asad Khalil were confounding disappointments. I liked 3/4 of this book quite a bit, so I'm giving it three stars, but the last 1/4 of this book is amateur-hour.

Fortunately, DeMille followed this one up with Night Fall (John Corey #3), which is absolutely tremendous!
