The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver

This is a book about friendship and about idealism--that wonderful philosophy that allows a person to do the right thing, laws and social norms and religion be damned.

I decided to read this book because at our library, all three copies of The Poisonwood Bible were checked out. Oprah must've recommended it or something. So I chose another Kingsolver book, this one still a virgin of all Oprah entanglements. Oprah may be a wonderful person, but her cliche name plastered on the cover of a book just devalues it somehow.

So anyway, this was a witty, lovable, book, so pure and innocent in a dirty sort of way. I suppose Jesus was like that. And so far, Oprah's name isn't on my Bible cover, either, so it's all good.

Regina what if you submitted book reviews to the local paper as an editorial
you are a great critic...
kinda like Mr. Ego in Ratatouille....

Charis I like Mr. Ego's review in Ratatouille. That made the movie.

Yes, I'm pondering doing something productive.

How was your job interview?

Regina The interview went really well (before you were here). I've been praying more into the situation. It seems that the part time help my potential employer had has given notice. It would be really helpful if I could get in for an up-to-speed training before she actually leaves.
I will keep you posted though.
Thanks for the informative and entertaining reviews, once again. You make learning fun!
