Same writing style as Shanghai Girls, though I think I like this story better. I like how she gives the reader the perspective of their whole life, not just a snippet at a certain time. I found the book to be emotionally difficult at times and to go against all things I know as a mother and as a member of modern western society, but I love how she portrayed their beliefs and their understandings of how life and the world work. You may not be as enthralled with this if you are not into historical fiction; this fits precisely in that genre, and very well, I might add.
