My wife picked up this ARC for me at ALA midwinter from Random House booth. The Expats follows ex CIA agent Kate Moore as she tries to transition to "retired" life with her husband and two kids in Luxembourg. A series of chance encounters begins to raise her suspicions and her instincts kick in. I felt the book was an enjoyable read. I found myself blazing through the book in about a day. The story line alternates between different timelines though a series of flashbacks. Early on this can be confusing but quickly becomes a non-issue. My biggest problem with the book was the use of different font/text size. The present timeline is denoted by a different font which is noticeably smaller. I felt the use of a different font was a nice and helpful touch but the smaller text size was an issue for me. I found myself straining to read those passages and became tired switching back and forth. I would have much preferred a different font that kept the same font size. I felt the book was an honest and easy read. Something I would certainly recommend to friends.
