Writing a quick review here, if I wait to write a full review it will never get done. The author has done a good job fitting into Arthur Conan Doyle's shoes and his world. It is easy reading and the tone and phrasing of the book is very Doyle. This is it's downfall, in my opinion. For people who have read the Holmes volumes end to end, and people who have had exposure to crimes much worse than what Doyle had written about, the mystery starts to flag as one starts to anticipate what is to come. Maybe the book is longer than it needs be. Maybe its the story. Maybe it is a bit too much homage to Arthur Conan Doyle. Whatever the reason it left me less impressed than I had anticipated. Still a good book to have, and if the author is allowed to add his own voice there might be better stories coming out of this stable.

I had zero expectations, read it because my client just handed it to me. But I was hooked soon after 15-20 pages. And, no, I didn't see final denouement coming so soon. It had its faults, but not predictability. I thoroughly enjoyed the book so much that I think I should write a proper review. :)
To be honest Sankarshan I too would have rated it highly if I was not so excited about it. And I cannot honestly knock the writing or the story. I guess I am too exposed to stories of this genre. As for the rating, Poonam and I differ only by one star :)Poonam, I enjoyed the book too, but I could see where it was going at least 20 odd pages befoe, which was not my normal expectation from a Sherlock Holmes case. Thinking back I am not sure if the reason I used to find Doyle's writing such a cliff hanger was because I was much younger and more naive then.
