I am a total sucker for historical fiction and mystery and romance and this book has it all. I loved it. When I picked up this novel, I thought it was just some cute little romance based around Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. I am a big fan of Shakespeare and that is what had really caught my eye initially. Not only did this novel have ties to Shakespeare's play but it was based in historic Sienna. There were essentially two stories intertwined in this novel; the story of Giulietta, the "real" Juliet, and the story of Julie, her descendent. I could not tell you which story I liked reading more. I loved the parallels between the two stories but I also loved that they weren't exactly the same. I loved the characters in the novel. They were real. The "bad guys" weren't all bad and the "good guys" weren't all good and sometimes you couldn't tell the two apart. There were surprises and suspense and history and true love that conquers all...all in all, this novel had everything. I loved it.
