Read this book because I love Maira's Kalman's work. That's all. Just love her stuff and will check out whatever she has to offer. Little did I know that I was going to be catapulted BACK to high school (not a place I want to be) and all its' awkwardness, confusion, angst and heartache.
I liked the premise; a heartbroken girl returning a box of mementos to her x-boyfriend with all-too-detailed explanations of each item. Most of the items ( I was disappointed that some items, like the plates and the menu from "Mayakovsky's Dream" or the thrift store tie or the second-favorite top with the weird pearly buttons) are rendered true-to-Maira-Kalman form.
It's a quick read with some very tender (though perhaps implausible) young-love scenes.
