What a way to start a book and with Lucy as the voice too. Ah I do love Lucy :) This series is awesome and despite it being about a much used and abused subject in literature, Alyxandra Harvey has managed to keep this vampire tale fresh and unique and with a witty modern twist.
Having said that, despite the humour, there are some pretty intense and emotional scenes that tugged on my heartstrings so bad I was close to tears and I truly felt for Lucy, Nicholas and Solange, whom all take centre stage in this instalment.
The only thing I could say I found fault with was that despite the fact the book was a good 300 or so pages there wasn't as much ground covered as in the previous books, though I suspect this is because it's leading up the next one where, judging by the ending of this one, all hell will break loose (probably literally!)
As for the ending itself, well I have this thing for cliffhangers...they make me go crazy waiting for the next in the series! In this case however I'll have to forgive Ms Harvey since I love this series so much and I'll just have to wait patiently for the next in the series :-) well, sort of patiently.
Anyway, if you like vampires, but are bored of the usual stuff out there then give this series a go. But don't start with this book, that would be silly. Start with Hearts at Stake (or My Love Lies Bleeding, as it's known as here in the UK) and then work your way through. I guarantee you'll be hooked by the end of book one.
Epic read!
