I'd like to give this book one star, but it's better written than that.

I would have loved this book in fifth grade. Loved. I was reading all the Bruce Coville books and into super powers and aliens. But for adult me, this book was an eye rolling bore. The writing, word by word, is good. It borders on purple, but it works because of the narrator's unique senses. However, the narrator is also so emotionally closed off that I couldn't connect with her. I wasn't rooting for her. Another unlikable protagonist. And the whole girl in the mental hospital thing has been so many times before, I kept getting it confused with other books, especially the first Soul Screamers book. Basically, it was ridiculous and not at all compelling. Yawn.

6.0% "Why am I reading another book that starts off with a girl in a mental institution and she doesn't remember why? I have a feeling the girl is going to be a Mary Sue and I'm going to hate this book. Prove me wrong."
