This is probably not quite a 4 star book, but is surely more than a 3...so I'll grade on a curve. The land, background and characters in this are developed just enough for me to want to see what happens next. Half human-vampire, half human-elf and the "dog" that is their companion have just enough hang ups to keep things interesting.
