A short, easy read. The story of a guy who tries to personally manufacture his own toaster... from scratch. Meaning he gets iron ore and tries to burn off the impurities, he tries to create plastic from potato starch, etc. Fascinating glimpse into modern manufacturing and how removed we are from the manufacturing (and the real costs) of the products we use every day. Not preachy at all - basically just a description of how he went about his project, complete with tons of pictures as well as correspondence with various people that he consulted with. This book was funny and informative. Loved it.
