I read this in the original Italian years ago, and recently read the translation on Project Gutenberg. Like most fairy tales that have been animated by Disney, this one has been extensively sanitized. I don't want to post any spoilers, but if you are part of the cowering, anxious masses you should skip this. There is a lot of naughtiness followed at last by despair and then redemption.
