Quotes Joshua Nomen-Mutatio Liked

Heidi Julavits
“He was uninterested in art, politics, culture, people. While his brain burrowed through rock toward a very specific knowledge goal, mine preferred to warren the air; his brain operated a drill bit while mine launched a thousand aimless kites that tangled strings or bounced along the invisible currents, disconnected and alone. Cognitively, we were the gravitational negatives of each other. Sometimes I wished I had his brain. But only sometimes. He suffered due to his specialized excesses; he just suffered differently from me.”
Heidi Julavits, The Vanishers

Jasmine best cover ever.

the trailer reminds me of a postmodern cinema class I took.

Joshua Nomen-Mutatio I think Heidi Julavits and Ben Marcus might make for the coolest married writing duo ever. I marked down one of her earlier books to read a few years ago, before even reading Marcus. I found out she also is the head editor of The Believer. I think this book is going to be pretty great.

Joshua Nomen-Mutatio Great essay on book reviewing and fiction writing she wrote for The Believer: http://www.believermag.com/issues/200...

Joshua Nomen-Mutatio RE cover image via the author: Cover for my new book (Doubleday, March 2012), designed by Emily Mahon. My first thought was, "The FTD Man Dropped Acid"—like lots of girl writers I was worried about getting a girly cover, one that says, "No Dude Goes Here." But this cover is so bonkers nutso girly, I am all over it. If dudes don’t want to go here, their loss.

Jasmine that essay makes me think you need to read orwell's essays. I swear he's the one somewhere that rants about the fact authors should never use a long word if a shorter word exists.

Miriam The cover huts my eyes.
