Read from January 20 to 23, 2012

I am reading this one because a local discussion group held at the public library is reading it for discussion on February 4, 2012.

This was a departure from my usual thriller, action fare. I liked it very much and am grateful to the local library and their book group for calling my attention to it. On the book's cover one of the critics describe this story as having a "slow burn." I'd say that was a good description. It moves slowly, the entire story covers just one summer and is the story of the lives of mostly one family. No one kills anyone, the family stays together and the admiration of trees is a large part of the story.

Still, I found myself wondering what would happen next. I was enthralled by the use of special descriptions of simple things. This book is a wonderful first effort by a first-time writer and I recommend it unreservedly. I am looking forward to the discussion at the library!
